About
Local Film Journal is about the ways film becomes part of local life: through screenings, venues, programming, film societies and stories made close to home. It is for curious viewers, organisers and makers who want to notice more than the title on the screen.
What we cover
We look at how a screening takes shape, how a programme can invite curiosity and how local film groups create a reason to gather. We also explore community-made films and the many ways a local story can reach viewers. The emphasis is on choices readers can understand and adapt, not on promoting particular venues or events.
Who it is for
Whether you attend screenings, help organise them or are simply curious about film beyond a screen at home, you are welcome here. You do not need specialist knowledge. We explain terms when they are useful and keep the focus on the experience of watching and sharing films.
Our approach
We aim to make each piece clear, specific and useful beyond a single event. We distinguish explanation from opinion, avoid presenting one local experience as universal and make space for different tastes, audiences and ways of taking part.
A film night is a shared act of attention
The screen matters, but so do the choices around it: what is shown, where people gather and how the evening makes room for everyone.
