Local Film Journal welcomes thoughtful pitches and finished contributions about the places, practices and choices that shape local film culture. A strong piece gives readers a clear idea to explore without assuming every community works the same way.
What we welcome
We are interested in screening experiences, venue culture, programming choices, film societies and community-made films. Useful contributions might explain a process, compare approaches or offer a fresh way to plan and enjoy a film gathering. Keep the scope focused and avoid relying on unverified claims or professional advice.
What makes a strong pitch
Tell us the central idea, why it matters to readers and what the piece would help them understand or do. Include a proposed title, likely length and a short note about your connection to the subject. Mention any sources, images or potential conflicts of interest that are relevant. A pitch is welcome before a full draft.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please do not send confidential information or material you do not have permission to share. We cannot promise publication, and we will discuss any changes or agreed terms before work is commissioned.
A film night is a shared act of attention
The screen matters, but so do the choices around it: what is shown, where people gather and how the evening makes room for everyone.
